Hike n' Ride

A Trail Head event is scheduled for Saturday, September 17, 2011.

Hikers will park at the north entrance off Midland Drive. Trailers will park at the south entrance off Old Melbourne Highway.

A 'mule team' will leave the horse parking area at 10 AM and head for the hikers' parking area to pick up supplies. Riders and hikers will both leave their respective parking areas starting at 11 AM. Dividing into groups of three is encouraged to avoid overcrowding on the trails. There is plenty of opportunity to regroup and explore different areas of the nature preserve.

With luck, everyone will converge at the lakeside pavilion for a picnic lunch at 12 noon. Use saddle bags if available. Avoid backpacks and coordinate with the hikers and mule team for heavier supplies.

Note: Please avoid the walking trail at the west end of the property. It is designed for foot traffic on the wood bridges.

A flyer with map is available at:

Malabar Scrub Sanctuary

The srub is a popular location. The pond and park are perfect cool-down spots after a sunny ride.

New Year's Gymkhana

Brandywine welcomed the New Year and some new horses with an afternoon of games and food. Forty-eight hoofs weaved the barrels, pushed the ball, and passed the baton in good cheer.

Sheep's Folly

Najorka Performance Horses in Narcoosee hosted a sorting clinic. The sheep helped newbie horses learn the ropes. Who says fancy dressage horses can't learn western!

Lake Lizzie

A great half-day ride awaits at Lake Lizzie in St Cloud. The three mile trail starts off Old Melbourne Highway, less than a mile from US192. The trails are groomed with firm sand all the way to the lake front. There is trailer parking at the ranger station.
